My session picks for VMware Explore 2022 in Barcelona

It’s nearing November, which it will be time for a lot of jamon, cerveza, amigos y amigas, and (of course) some knowledge sharing at VMware Explore 2022 in Barcelona! I’m really looking forward to the event and am really curious to see if it will differ from VMware Explore 2022 in the US (which was held a couple of weeks ago).

This blog post shares some of the sessions I’m looking forward to.

Setting the North Star for a Hybrid Work World [EUSK2299EUR]

Session Abstract:
The journey to hybrid has not been easy, and although it is now the default, it will take work. Join Shankar Iyer, SVP and GM of End-User Computing at VMware, as he discusses the ever-evolving hybrid model and how technology can be used to rebuild culture, address employee experience gaps, and optimize security. Hear how data science and automation are also at the forefront in enabling the new paradigm of hybrid. Understand from key customers how they are adopting and adjusting technologies in the quest for a more secure medium to connect, engage and build a culture of resilience.

My take:
This session is also known as the solution keynote, but I think it will bring more than just a couple announcements. Looking at the speaker list, customers will probably also talk about their shift to the hybrid world, next to Shawn Bass talking us through a couple of demos. Will be an essential EUC session!

What’s New in Anywhere Workspace [EUSB2295EUR]

Session abstract:
Join Shawn Bass, CTO of End-User Computing at VMware, and additional product leaders for a fast-paced, comprehensive overview of the newest innovations in VMware Anywhere Workspace, our solution that includes VMware Workspace ONE and VMware Horizon, as well as key solutions from VMware SASE and VMware Carbon Black. This session will cover digital employee experience, security, unified endpoint management, frontline solutions, desktop virtualization and desktop as a service (DaaS), remote access, cloud web security, as well as our unified administration, analytics, automation, workflow, and identity services. For EUC pros, this session is a can’t miss.

My take:
This is a must-see session as Shawn and his team will probably overload us with new features in Anywhere Workspace. We all know that Shawn has trained himself to put 120 minutes of content into a 60-minute session, so be prepared to drink from a firehose.

Nerdfest 2022 at VMware Explore US

See the Value of a Complete Anywhere Workspace at the EUC Nerdfest 2022 [EUSB2289EUR]

Session abstract:
After two years of showing the art of the possible of the VMware end-user computing (EUC) space—such as VDI platforms running AI/machine learning, Day 0/1 onboarding, and running VR workloads in VMware Horizon—it’s time for a third edition of this high-energy, demo-packed, real-world showcase session. This year, Johan van Amersfoort will focus on what’s possible when combining VMware Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub with AI, security solutions, and VMware Horizon integration. This session will contain unique demos and show what employee experience, Zero Trust and self-service mean from a VMware perspective.

My take:
What’s not to like 🙂 I get to do what I love most: show awesome demos and a bit of a side story why you should build similar solutions.

Tales From the Trenches: How the VMware Anywhere Workspace Exceeds Employees’ Expectations [EUSB2407EUR]

Session abstract:
In this session, three industry veterans will demonstrate modern workspace management in a way that’ll blow your mind! They’ll take burning topics such as device enrollment, application deployment, the distribution of Windows updates, and security, and will show how capabilities of VMware’s Anywhere Workspace solution can not only simplify their management, but also what the resulting employee experience could be like. The session is based on a project where the three presenters joined forces to deliver something magical. This is a session you won’t want to miss!

My take:
If you have seen the Solution Keynote from VMware Explore US, you know that VMware’s North Star is the Autonomous Workspace. In this session, we will already show you what can be done with today’s solutions when thinking about the Autonomous Workspace. A must-see session if you would like to see what can be done with Workspace ONE Intelligence and Freestyle Orchestrator.

Zero Trust Session with John Kindervag [SECB2197EUR]

Session abstract:
The global pandemic has changed how we live and work. Meanwhile, cyberattacks continue to increase in sophistication and breach traditional security defenses. To avoid becoming victims of repeated attacks, executives chartered with maintaining continuous compliance practices continue to be concerned about managing risk. John Kindervag, the creator of Zero Trust, will share compelling insights on how the Zero Trust approach can help fortify your security posture today and in the future.

My take:
Attending a session from the creator of Zero Trust? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Create the Future of Candidate & Employee Experience in the Digital Space [EUSB1936EUR]

Session Abstract:
Navigating a challenging job market requires meeting job candidates, new hires, and employees in the digital space with a more engaging, informative, and consistent experience. Learn from a Fortune 50 customer’s HR Team on how they re-imagined deployment of VMware Workspace ONE with ActionLogics to impact recruiting, onboarding, and retention while achieving truly transformative results.

My take:
One of my favorite session from VMware Explore US 2022. FedEx shows how they integrated Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub into their HR platform to build something that’s truly magical. HR/IT collaboration at it’s very best.

How Can Great User Experience Improve Security? [EUS1350EUR]

Session abstract:
In this ‘must-attend’ session, we’ll show you how you can improve both your employees’ IT user experience and security. It’ll be fully interactive session with a stellar panel of legendary industry experts: VMware’s Ron Oglesby, Peter Björk, and Reinhart Nell, with Maarten Caus from VMware Partner, ITQ. Looking forward to seeing you there for some lively discussion!

My take:
I have seen a similar panel discussion with Maarten and Ron at the Netherlands UserCon, and it was great. Join these industry experts in a panel discussion that will surely show why it is essential to focus on UX while implementing a security strategy.

VMware Horizon Cloud Service – next-gen: Intro and Architecture Deep Dive with Demos [EUST2158EUR]

Session abstract:
The next generation of the VMware Horizon Cloud platform is here. This session will give an overview of the new VMware Horizon Cloud Service – next-gen platform. Get the lowdown on the technical architecture and service details, along with details on integrations with other VMware products. This session will include demos to show the new user interface, a walk-through of the initial deployment, how to add capacity, and how to build out user resources, such as desktops and applications. We will cover results from initial customer deployments with insights toward building a successful implementation of the newest VMware desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) platform.

My take:
Graeme Gordon will show what he has been talking about in the Unexplored Territory episode about EUC announcements at VMware Explore US. A must-attend if you are already in Barcelona at day 0 (monday)!

Follow me on twitter to see what I’m up to and send me a DM if you would like to meet up. You can still register for the event. I’m looking forward seeing everyone there!
